PEMDAS and the Common Errors in the Order of Operations

PEMDAS is the acronym for the order of operations. P stands for parentheses, E for exponent, and MDAS for Mulitplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction respectively.

This means we want to evaluate a numerical expression such as

5(6 + 3)^2 - 8

Watch Exceptional Fast-Paced Math Videos at Vi Hart

In addition to the list of more than 5000 free mathematics and physics videos  and tutorials I shared  last year, you may want to add the Vi Hart‘s Math Channel in Youtube. Vi Hart has created recreational math videos and mathematical doodles in fast-paced narration. The  channel has more than 200,000 subscribers and has been viewed more than 16 million times as of this writing.

Vi Hart calls herself a recreational mathemusician. She was born Victoria Hart, a music major who is passionate about mathematics. She is currently working at the Khan Academy but continues to maintain her own  video blog.
