Geometer’s Sketchpad Essentials 7 – Translating Geometric Objects

This is the sixth part of the Geometer’s Sketchpad Tutorial Series.  In this post, we are going to learn how to use the Translate command.   First, we are going to make a translation vector using two points A and B, where A is the initial and B is the terminal point. We are going to construct a triangle and translate it using vector AB.

Instructions

1. Using the Point tool construct two points and use the Text tool to reveal their names. Be sure that they are named  A and B. » Read more

Geometer’s Sketchpad Essentials 2 – Constructing a rectangle

This is the second tutorial in the Geometer’s Sketchpad Essentials Series. In the first tutorial of this series, we used Geometer’s Sketchpad to construct medians of the triangle and found out that the medians intersect at a point. In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to use parallel and perpendicular lines to construct a rectangle.

Figure 1 - The rectangle construction after step 11.

Step by Step Instructions

1.) Open Geometer’s Sketchpad.

2.) Construct a segment using the Segment tool.

3) Select the Text tool and click the two points to create their labels. These points are named A and B. » Read more

Geometer’s Sketchpad Essentials 1 – Locating the Centroid

This is the first tutorial in the Geometer’s Sketchpad Essentials (GSP) Series.  In this tutorial, we are going to investigate the medians of a triangle. We will learn how to use the basic tools: Point Tool, Selection Arrow Tool, and the Segment Tool. If you are not familiar with GSP, you may want to read Introduction to Geometer’s Sketchpad.

The output of our tutorial is shown in the Figure above; points D, E, and F are midpoints of the sides of triangle ABC» Read more
