I’m Still an Active GeoGebra User

High School Mathematics

GeoGebra has improved a lot since I was first acquainted with it in 2006. For the subscribers of this blog, you have probably come across my series of tutorials on how to use the app. In recent years, GeoGebra has evolved into several apps that can be used for specific tasks. It has also become compatible with major operating systems including Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. The different GeoGebra apps are the following:

  • Scientific Calculator
  • Graphing Calculator
  • Geometry
  • 3D
  • CAS
  • Classic

The Classic has two versions and is the most comprehensive among the apps. The 3D app has also support from Augmented Reality. In addition, one of the recent updates of GeoGebra is its support for examinations.  

My Current Work on GeoGebra

Personally, I have been involved in developing applets and lessons for the GeoGebra Institute in my country (see example below). You can view my applets at the official GeoGebra website and some short videos demonstrating the capabilities of GeoGebra at our GeoGebra Institute Facebook page. The official website of our GeoGebra Institute is currently being updated here and hopefully, we can upload lessons that are readily available for teachers soon.

At the Institute where I work, we have also integrated GeoGebra in several of our teacher trainings. Last year, we have obtained funding to train potential trainers. The project includes developing a module for future trainers and a 2-phase training.  The training was supposed to be start in April but was postponed due to the current pandemic.

There are so many tutorials if you want to learn GeoGebra. You can see my tutorials here or read the GeoGebra Manual. As for the applets, there are millions of applets uploaded in the GeoGebra website. Some of the excellent GeoGebraists are Daniel Mentrard, Tim Bzherzhinski. The GeoGebra Institute of Bogota is also very active.

Editing of Old Articles

High School Mathematics

Mathematics and Multimedia has been silent for the past four months because I am busy, but I have silently edited old articles. I will continue editing and one of the improvements that I am planning is to integrate GeoGebra applets in some of the articles since GeoGebra can now be directly embedded in WordPress posts. As many of you already know, I have numerous tutorials on how to use GeoGebra. In addition, I am also updating the tutorials using the current version of GeoGebra. There are many new developments particularly the integration of augmented reality.

I started this blog 9 years ago and, so far, I have written more than 1000 articles. Many of them are on using GeoGebra and many also contains discussion about mathematics content from elementary school to university mathematics. Numerous times, I have also introduced apps that can be used for teaching and learning mathematics. The complete list of all the posts can be found in the Archives page.

Starting today, I will be sharing more about mathematics teaching and mathematics ago. I had been hesitant to share my thoughts about them because I felt that I was not qualified to do so. Recently, I have realized that maybe, there are a few things that I can share from more than one and a half decades of teaching and training. Hopefully, this blog will be of help to younger teachers or at the very least a trigger for reflection and discussion.

Math and Multimedia turns 7!

Announcements

Math and Multimedia turns 7 today. I started this blog as a hobby but now it has grown into more than a thousand posts.  Recently, it has been recognized as one of the top 100 math blogs for students and math teachers.

In the past few weeks, you have probably observed that fewer posts were made. This is because I am currently studying (again). I’ll do my best though to post at least once a week.

Future Plans

I have already several posts lined up for the coming weeks but below are some of the changes that you will see soon:

  • More interactive posts (using applets)
  • A shift the focus from middle school mathematics to high school mathematics particularly Precalculus and Calculus
  • GeoGebra Tutorials and Pages updates
  • More apps,  games, and resources
