GeoGebra Tutorial 28 – Animation and Hypocycloids

This is the 28th tutorial of the GeoGebra Intermediate Tutorial Series. If this is your first time to use GeoGebra, you might want to read the GeoGebra Essentials Series.

A hypocycloid is a special curve generated by the trace of a fixed point on a small circle that rolls within a larger circle. It is comparable to the cycloid but instead of the circle rolling along a line, it rolls within a circle.

In the tutorial below, menu commands, located in the menu bar, are in green bold text, and sub-menus are denoted by the > symbol. For example, Options>Labeling> New Points Only means, click the Options menu, choose Labeling from the list, then select New Points Only. The tool texts are colored orange. Finger Math Multiplication

I was surprised when I came across with an article on Polish hand magic, a strategy for multiplication using fingers. I remember us doing it when we were in the first grade, but in a slightly different way.  Here in our country, we call it Finger Math or Finger Multiplication.

Finger multiplication is a strategy for multiplying numbers from 6 to 10.  It is used by pupils in the early grades who have not memorized the multiplication table yet.  The idea is to assign the numbers from 6 to 10 to each finger on both hands (see Figure 1): 6 to the pinkie, 7 to the ring finger, 8 to the middle finger, 9 to the index finger, and 10 to the thumb.

To multiply, do the following (see Figure 2):

(1) Connect the fingers assigned to the numbers that you want to multiply. For example, in multiplying 8 and 7, connect the middle finger and the ring finger (see Figure 2). » Read more

Basic Web from 20 Things I learned

20 Things I learned is an excellent ebook  published by Google that discusses about the basics of web and computing. 

The topics included among others are  HTML, RSS, JavaScript, computing and HTML 5. Security issues topics such as Malware and Phishing were also inlcuded.
This ebook is a very good resource for bloggers who don’t have a theoretical background about the web.
